O'Malley gets down to business in Israel

Gov. Martin O'Malley is scheduled to travel to Israel in late May to call attention to biotechnology research and business opportunities in Maryland.

While in Israel from May 27 to June 2, O'Malley will "speak about Maryland as a prime location for life science companies at the annual Israel Biomed Conference," said Christine Hansen, a spokesperson for the governor.

Ambassador speaks of Israeli efforts toward peace

Sallai Meridor, the Ambassador of Israel to the United States, affirmed Israel's commitment to peace and hope for the future in a speech May 5 to a full crowd in Van Munching Hall.

The lecture and reception were free and open to the public, and marked the inaugural lecture of the Richard and Elizabeth Dubin Distinguished Lecture Series entitled "Israel at 60: Facing Threats, Keeping Hope" by the Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies.

One Subway restaurant in Baltimore has now joined the likes of unique Subway branches in Cleveland, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and eight other locations: it is kosher.

The new kosher location, located less than an hour away from campus at 706 Reisterstown Road in Pikesville, Md.

With a community of 6,500 plus Jewish students, according to Maryland Hillel, many would tout the University of Maryland as a haven for Jewish students. But for some considering transferring to different colleges, religious observance is the primary reason they would leave.
